Democracy A Bad Experience For The Pakistanis

Author: Mohammad Mansoor Ali Ansari

Pakistani people are beginning to curse the word Democracy!!! The clash of the Rhinos is destroying the country very quickly.

The politicians which are in the picture now are showing the immaturity and profound mishandling of the greatest opportunity they were given to prove that they can steer Pakistan out of the drowning situation.

The restoration of Judiciary is an important issue. The lack of commitment and repeated change in statements by PPP has surely aggravated the situation. Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry’s restoration though looks very difficult decision for the Government but it will put a symbolic impact on the minds of people of Pakistan who were seeing the lame Judiciary since the era of Mr. Ayub Khan. Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif have shown extreme immaturity while dealing with Mr. Asif Ali Zardari. May be Sharif brothers have underestimated the hidden cunningness of the new President. No matter Mr. Zardari has literally made Sharifs real "Maamoo" or in more logical terms, fooled the experienced politicians, but it must be seen that the handling of other issues by Mr. Zardari is showing lack of maturity. Particularly when we discuss the handling of Mumbai attacks aftermaths and most importantly the shameful incident of attack on Sri Lankan Players, the control on the issues of security seems nowhere existed.

The internal rifts in PPP after the toppling of Punjab Government are slowly getting visible. The resignation of Mr. Raza Rabbani from Cabinet and from the position of House Leader in Senate is a strong alarm that PPP is slipping towards complete dominance of Punjabi elements. The rift would soon aggravate because the way loyals like Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Naheed Khan, Safder Abbasi and now Raza Rabbani are treated, it is strongly believed that PPP is completely hijacked by the loyals of Mr. Zardari who are mostly from Punjab Side.

One must also believe that what we see now as PPP is not the PPP of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed. It is a party hijacked by Mr. Zardari who was no where in the picture during election campaign of Ms. Bhutto and was just raising kids in Dubai. All of a sudden things quickly changed and altogether new PPP came out with the ideology colliding with the aims of Mohatarama Benazir Bhutto Shaheed.

The reaching storm of Long March, the fire balled tones of Sharif Brothers, the cracking walls of PPP due to demoralizing the Sindhi elements and further more the grave law and order situation show the signs of another sad ending of the democratic process. It can happen any moment as the boiling point is almost reached.

It is extremely bad luck for Pakistan that the train of democracy stopped for such a long time on every station. The final destination of reaching a strong democratic Pakistan is a dream almost lost now. People like Mr. Yousuf Raza Gilani & Mohammad Khan Junejo (Late) can be called as the most decent Prime Ministers in the history of Pakistan after Mr. Liaquat Ali Khan (Late). But the Presidents in the era of both these Prime Ministers backstabbed them and gave a serious blow to the nation.

It is a most serious suggestion now to both the fighting parties to understand the grave situation of the country. People are committing suicide and are forced to sell their children to earn their livelihood. People of Pakistan should also understand that present leadership is having their future completely secured in the Swiss Banks and towered villas in the countries like Switzerland. Recently I read on a website that top Leaders of Pakistan are now planning to purchase small Islands in the Caribbean Sea. If it is true then it would be extreme bad luck of this nation that they have once again allowed such leaders to escape safely.

The link below shows the magnitude of wealth Mr. Asif Ali Zardari has collected. Thanks Mr. Musharraf and his NRO, all the looted money of the Pakistani people is now in the hands of our Golden President.

It is strongly demanded by educated and sincere people that political parties like MQM, Tehreek-e-Insaf, Awami Muslim League etc. may be given opportunity to run the government for a transitional term of at least 3 years. It is true that currently the kind of approach which MQM has adopted for the progress in the city of Karachi, that may also change the face of the nation. Tehreek-e-Insaf has no particular track record of ruling the country or even a minor city, it is hopeful that the leadership of Mr Imran Khan can bring visible changes to the face of Pakistan. Sheikh Rasheed is also a true person and has his hands clean even after decades long career in politics.

The people of Pakistan should understand that the time is running out. They need to act with determination and they should decide now that either they want the current leadership of the country on their seats or their time is really over.

Time is very short now!!
